CORNWALL, Ont. - Cornwall Motor Speedway had a great way to celebrate Canada Day as the Super DIRTcar Big Block Series was in town with all the Modified stars turning out to compete in the Evans Bus Lines 100 and try to win $6,000.
Bobby Herrington and Justin Haers led the way in the Evans Bus Lines 100 Super DIRTcar Big-Block Series, as Herrigton got the lead, with Chris Raabe and Danny Johnson behind him. Johnson got second as the leaders got into traffic on lap 10; Johnson got the lead from Herrington under these conditions. An accident occurred on lap 14 as the leader Johnson got together with a lap car and it involved also top runners Brett Hearn and Justin Haers. Raabe to the lead on the restart as Mario Clair jumped to third. Clair had a strong car and took second as Carey Terrance was now in the mix in third. The race quickly hit the 40 lap mark and Raabe was setting the pace as Matt Sheppard cracked the top five and had his sights on the top spot. Steve Bernard brought the caution on lap 44.
At the halfway point, Raabe was still in the lead over Clair, Terrance, Sheppard and Laurent Ladouceur. Billy Dunn made his way to the top five after starting 18th on lap 53. Sheppard got third just before Gary Tomkins stopped in the backstretch with 42 laps to go. Raabe still in the lead on the restart as a great battle was occurring behind him. Dunn in second place on lap 76 but jumped the cushion in turn 4 and lost six spots. Clair found a good lane on the top and was challenging for third with 83 laps in the books. Clair got to Terrance for second with less than a dozen laps to go. Raabe got into heavy traffic as the yellow lights came back. Raabe led the final laps to capture his first ever Super DIRTcar Series Race over Clair, Terrance, Planck and Ladouceur.
Charles-David Beauchamp was led the way in the Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock feature as Rosco Garreau and George Renaud were behind the leader. Renaud got by Beauchamp for the lead as Dion Oakes and Joey Ladouceur made their way to the top five. Ladouceur passed two cars on the same lap and took second at the halfway point. Renaud and Ladouceur ran side by side as Ghislain Valade joined them in third. Renaud resisted and crossed the finish line first in front of Ladouceur and Valade completed the podium.
A fine group of 26 Sportsman took the green in the Storm Realty Tracy Wheeler 20-lap feature as Louie Jackson was in the lead with Corey Wheeler running strong in second with Jenna David in third. Chris Herbison was coming on strong as he got to fourth on lap 6 as Wheeler passed Jackson two laps later for the lead just before three cars spun in turn 1. On the restart, Wheeler in the lead as Herbison got third, second caution came out with eight laps to go. Herbison had issues with his car and headed to the pits giving third to Gilles Godard. Wheeler survived some late cautions to win his second feature of the season over Jackson and Gilles Godard.
Jake Deer and Junior Delormier swapped the lead in the 15-lap Evans Bus Lines Semi-Pro feature as Delormier got the lead for good and got his first win of the season in front of Joe Woods and Andrew Giroux.
A good field of 16 cars took the initial green in the Crazy Dave`s DJ Services Mini-Stock feature race. Chris James was the early leader but had issues and Danny Lefebvre got the lead but lost it on the following restart as Michael Blais was now first as Martin Bernard made his way up to second with Justin Desrosiers in third. Blais still strong in front with Mathieu Aubin moving up to second with Bernard still third. Bernard lost a wheel with 2 laps to go while running third and had to head to pits. Blais leads the final laps to win his first feature of the season over Aubin and Desrosiers.
This Sunday, a full program involving all five classes will be on hand as the Semi-Pro will have a special 25-lap event. Go Glass will also present a Powder Puff race.
