MORRISTOWN - As part of an addition onto the Bedrock Café in Morristown, owner Wendy Goldie has opened the only liquor store between Alexandria Bay and Ogdensburg. The expansion of the existing building, originally erected in 2007, has seen it double in size to include a bar and conference center.
When Mrs. Goldie opened the Bedrock Café in 2007 she had no idea of the looming challenges. With the 2008 financial meltdown that sent shockwaves into the business community, Mrs. Goldie said she just refused to quit. Its a challenge, she said of the business, Can I or cant I? And I can and I did and I will continue to [succeed].
Now her business is not only surviving in the post-recession economy, but growing. 2012 marks her fifth year operating the Bedrock Café, where she operates a family restaurant featuring a plethora of home grown options and an ice cream bar, and her entry into new markets.
With the new space come new opportunities, including the ability to host conferences, private parties and weddings. The bar and conference center space (a multi-purpose facility) boasts a 20-foot Chicago-style bar and opens into the restaurant.
Mrs. Goldie not only envisioned the new development, but did most of the woodwork and painting herself. I am a food freak, she said, This is all to help me sell food.
With the liquor store portion of the expansion having opened Thursday, July 5, Mrs. Goldie is confident about the future success of her enterprise. Youve seen the empty shelves, she told The Journal, saying she is merely happy to provide for the needs of her already large customer base.
The Bedrock Café is open for Lunch and Dinner Monday through Friday and all day on the weekends. On Sundays Mrs. Goldie hosts what she calls her famous breakfast buffet from 8 a.m. to noon. Mrs. Goldie says she hopes to have the bar and conference center open within the next two weeks.
