MALONE - A Plattsburgh man charged with five felonies stemming from a July 2011 home invasion pleaded guilty to all counts in Franklin County Court today.

Daniel DeCarlo II, 29 admitted to two counts of second-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree burglary, one count of first-degree assault, and one count of first-degree gang assault.

District Attorney Derek Champagne said the court has committed to a sentence no harsher than a determinate 14-year prison term, to be followed by five years post-release supervision.

DeCarlo was arrested last July after he and two accomplices broke into the home of Jeffrey Durant in Malone. DeCarlo attacked Durant with a crowbar, fracturing his skull. The attack was motivated by a romantic rivalry.

DeCarlo’s two accomplices, Todd Knudson, 20 and Brandon Collins, 20, both of Plattsburgh, were each charged with first-degree burglary, but have pleaded guilty to reduced charges of second-degree burglary. They had each agreed to testify at DeCarlo’s trial, which had been scheduled to begin July 24, in exchange for lighter sentences.
