The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Republican Matt Doheny's bid to oust Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, on Nov. 6.
"We believe that your election to the U.S. House of Representatives will help produce sustained economic growth, help create more jobs and get our country back on track," the chamber's president and CEO Thomas Donohue said in a letter to Mr. Doheny, according to the Doheny campaign.
The Chamber typically supports Republican politicians. It was up on the tee-vee with advertisements slamming Mr. Owens for his vote in favor of President Obama's health-care law. It will encourage its member businesses locally to encourage them to support Mr. Doheny, the campaign said.
Chambers of Commerce, of course, aren't monolithic. Garry Douglas, the head of the North Country Chamber of Commerce in Plattsburgh, has donated to Mr. Owens, along with a slew of other local officials, Republican and Democrat. As the old saying goes, all politics is local.
