Nancy Brown, the former Jefferson County treasurer, was approached to take over for Sean Hennessey when he departs the chairmanship of the county Democratic Party.
Reached at her home Wednesday, Ms. Brown said that Democratic Party officials have asked her to take the job, and she said she has some interest in it, but believes the party should cast a wide net in looking for a new leader.
Meanwhile, Ron Cole, who is the first vice president of the county party, said he has no interest at all in taking over. Mr. Cole had previously served as the county party's chairman.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, Mr. Hennessey will take over as the superintendent of the Dulles State Office Building later this week. The Democratic Party will need to find a new county election commissioner, too.
"He has done a great job as our chair," Mr. Cole said. "He's a good fundraiser. He's going to be a tough guy to replace. We'll manage. I wish him the best."
