Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff Friday in honor of two Fort Drum soldiers who died Saturday in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.
Pfc. Jose O. Belmontes, from La Verne, Calif., and Sgt. 1st Class Bobby L. Estle, of Lebanon, Ohio, died of injuries inflicted by enemy small-arms fire. Both soldiers were assigned to the 630th Engineer Company of the 7th Engineer Battalion in the 10th Mountain Divisions 10th Sustainment Brigade.
