The Sci-Tech Center of Northern New York, 154 Stone St., will host its annual Perseid meteor watch at 9 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Perch River Air Monitoring Station, Vaadi Road.
The Perseid meteor shower is so named because it appears to fall from a point in the constellation Perseus.
Telescopes will be set up for people to view a variety of celestial phenomena, to learn about some of the constellations and to see how they can find directions from the stars.
Sci-Tech staff will be on hand to help guide people and provide meteor viewing hints. If there is a clear, dark sky, people may see as many as 60 meteors an hour, according to a news release from the center.
People are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair and insect repellent.
