The Lisbon Museum Depot is planning its first Depot Day on August 17 to celebrate trains and their history.

The event will run from 10a.m. and last till 4p.m. and include a range of activities focused on life on and around the tracks.

Lisbon Town Historian, Nancy Lafaver, said Depot Day was planned “just to bring people in.”

Throughout the year, Ms. Lafaver estimates that roughly 300 people stop into the museum.

On Depot Day, however, “we will beat our yearly record in one day,” she said confidently.

Miniature train rides will be offered by Kenny Friedel on a replica Cummins diesel electric box cab built in the 1930’s. The inch and a half scale model train runs along a 200 foot track.

Also featured at Depot Day will be a New York and Ogdensburg Railway Company train parked at the station for the weekend. Staff will be on hand to give tours of the vehicle.

The Lisbon Hepburn Library will be read train related stories on the law and teach children about the history of hobos on trains.

In addition to train-centric activities, the day will host a bouncy house and free face painting.
