Ogdensburg Public Librarys collection of childrens books grew a little bit this week, courtesy of Congressman William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
On Wednesday, the 312 Washington St. library took delivery of a box of 53 new, surplus children books from the congressional library.
The delivery was arranged by Mr. Owens last month when he was at the library for a constituent meeting.
The Ogdensburg library has an estimated 3,000 childrens titles, according to Director Wayne L. Miller.
But every addition is appreciated.
These books are a very welcome addition, Mr. Miller said. Our book budget is limited, and purchase of childrens books is primarily reliant upon donations. We are most appreciative of Congressman Owenss efforts on our behalf in obtaining this gift from the Library of Congress.
The donation also enabled the library to save some money.
The conservative estimate of the average price of a childrens book is $15, putting the approximate value of these books at $800, Mr. Miller said.
