Applications from nonprofit organizations and municipalities are being accepted for the states military base retention grant program.
Successful applicants for the Empire State Development program can receive up to $300,000 to communicate the importance of bases and their missions, improve military facilities, promote additional missions for units based in the state or conduct other efforts to sustain and expand the states military bases.
State statistics show New Yorks military bases account for 10,000 direct jobs, $688 million in direct wages and $1.9 billion of economic impact.
Grant applications must be emailed or postmarked by Aug. 23. More information about the grants and the application process may be found at www.esd.ny.gov/BaseRetention.html.
