LOWVILLE — A Lowville man was charged July 29 with violating a village law prohibiting open burning, Lowville police said on Tuesday.

Police charged Eric L. Stanton, 51, East State Street, with prohibited open burn, answerable in Village Court.

Lowville firefighters on July 23 responded to Mr. Stanton’s residence for a reported possible barn fire and found that he was burning paper in a large, open fire in his backyard, police said.
