POTSDAM - The Potsdam Town and Country Club staged its 2012 mens championships this past weekend.
Nick Miller surged past the rest of the field to claim his fifth club championship, opening with a one-under par, 71, before closing with a 74 to finish with a two-day total of 145. Jimmy Williams placed second with a 160 followed by Cory Towne with a 161.
In the Senior Flight, Billy Ford (156) outlasted a tough field of his peers, grinding out a 77 on Sunday afternoon with a clutch birdie on 18, after starting the day one stroke back of eventual runner-up Geoff Brown (158) and tied with third place finisher Mike Rosenquist (160) and fourth place finisher Chuck Bullard (161).
In capturing a sixth Senior Club Championship, Ford continued a memorable year that has included an ace on PTCCs sixth hole and a successful defense of his NNYGA Super Senior title at the Massena Country Club in a thrilling playoff earlier this month.
In the Super Senior Flight, former Club Champion, Pete Shelly ran away with the title shooting a solid 77 on a tough Sunday set-up over former Super-Senior Champ- Frank Keleher.
The Mens Net Division had a nice turnout with former Net Champion Richie Scott regaining his crown with a Net 66 and 70 (136) to beat out runners-up Rich Lemanquais (145) and Kyle Matott (145). Scott played some smart golf througout the weekend teeing off with his 5-iron on most of the par 4s.
Earlier in the season, the Ladies Club Championship was contested over a difficult Red and Gold Tee layout and Terri Gilchrist became our new Ladies Club Champion, dethroning longtime champion Karen OBrien in convincing fashion, shooting 85-83 over the 36-hole event.
