WELLESLEY ISLAND Mr. Richard E. Larkin Sr., age 80, of Fineview, died Saturday evening at his home. He was under the care of his family and Jefferson County Public Health. A graveside service is tentatively scheduled for 11am Saturday, August 25th at Riverside Cemetery on Wellesley Island. There will be no calling hours or funeral.
Richard was born August 27th, 1931 in Fineview, the son of Frank and Mary Conant Larkin. He attended LaFargeville Central School. On June 15th, 1957 he married the former Ann (Sally) Slate at Thousand Island Park Chapel. He served in the United State Navy in Korea where he was wounded in action while serving on the USS Wisconsin. Richard was honorable discharged November 27th of 1954. After his military service he worked for Tommy Mitchell, Richard then went to work for the Thousand Island Park Corporation in 1956 and retired as Superintendent in 1992. He was also a water treatment plant operator.
Richard was a member of the Wellesley Island Fire Department where he was also a past chief. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, reading and snowmobiling.
Surviving besides his wife Sally are two daughters, Ellen and Shellie; one son Richard Jr., all of Wellesley Island; three grandchildren, Sarah Richards of Watertown, Jesse Larkin of Fineview and Lindsey Campbell of Texas; four great grandchildren, Morgan and Brady Richards, Raiven Parker and Bryson Campbell; two sisters, Shirley Bond of Adams and Phyllis (Earnest) Lowe of Clayton; one sister in law Joyce Larkin of Clayton; nieces and nephews.
One brother James Larkin died before him.
