Siena College to release congressional poll

The Siena College Research Institute will release the first independent poll of the new 21st Congressional District on Monday morning.

U.S. Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, is facing Republican Matthew A. Doheny of Watertown and Donald L. Hassig on the Green Party line.

The congressional seat will change from the 23rd District to the 21st District.

A few things to watch for: How are the candidates doing in the new part of the district? How are they doing in the old part of the district? How’s Mr. Hassig doing, and if he’s polling at, say, 3 percent, is there any chance he will attain that in the general election?

A Democratic poll earlier this year showed Mr. Owens leading; no Republican poll has been released.
