Sullivan: Candidates should seek 'true north'

John T. Sullivan Jr., the former mayor of Oswego who was an influential Democrat in the north country, penned a commentary today on the race between Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, and Republican Matt Doheny.

He doesn't seem to believe that either campaign is a paragon of sincerity.

"Trouble is, (Mr. Doheny) is conducting his campaign as an ardent ideologue in league with the '1 percent' Republicans," Mr. Sullivan writes.

"On the other side of the aisle, his as yet undistinguished opponent, Congressman Owens, is clearly not struggling enough to shed his own polenta-like essence and step into the role of an incumbent who is fighting to protect the rights of his 99 percenter constituency," Mr. Sullivan continues.

The whole thing is worth a read.
