Rochester-based business group Unshackle Upstate is endorsing only two candidates for re-election in the tri-county region.
The candidates are Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush, R-Black River, and Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru.
Mr. Blankenbush has no opponent. Mrs. Duprey faces Karen Bisso on the Conservative line and Tim Carpenter, a Democrat, in the Nov. 6 election.
Not endorsed: State Sens. Joe Griffo, R-Rome, Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton (facing Democrat Amy Tresidder), Betty Little, and Assemblymembers Addie Russell, D-Theresa, Will Barclay, R-Pulaski, and Marc Butler, R-Newport (facing Democrat Joe Chilelli).
Interestingly, the group endorsed Mrs. Ritchie in her 2010 race against then-Sen. Darrel Aubertine. Mrs. Ritchie received an 82 from the group in its annual scorecard, and her office rather vexingly called it one of the top ratings in the Senate, even though it was barely in the top half.
“In 2010, people across the state voted for a stronger economy and economic certainty for families and businesses. Working together, we've made great strides toward those goals but New York State's comeback is far from over,” Unshackle chief Brian Sampson said in a news release. “The 30 candidates that we've endorsed today are committed to improving New York's business climate and easing the burden on taxpayers. These men and women have earned the opportunity to go to Albany and serve their constituents.”
