The Massena Central varsity girls soccer team surged past Central Division rival Franklin Academy while Parishville-Hopkinton settled for a 1-1 overtime time with Madrid-Waddington in the only two NAC games played on Thursday.
Massena 3, FA 1: In Malone, the visiting Lady Raiders answered the first goal of the game by the Huskies 14 minutes into the second half with three of their own over the final 12 to remain undefeated atop the Central standings at 6-0.
Annie Sharlow opened the scoring for FA (2-4-1, 1-3-1) off an assist from Morgan Fountain but Dominique Valancius pulled Massena even just five minutes later by finishing off a play set up by Serena Hall. Kathleen Kassian netted the eventual game-winner with 9:44 left in regulation assisted by Mia Jermano before Audrey Hayes sealed the win with an unassisted goal six minutes later.
Courtney Manley posted 3 saves working th crease for the win as Massena improved to 8-1 overall. Jayme LaVoie stopped nine shot in the loss.
We wore them down and took control in the second half, said Massena Coach Ryan Hayes. They (Malone) are very quick up front, so we had to do a good job with our marking.
They are a dangerous team, added Hayes. Any time you can come out of Malone with a win is a big plus.
P-H 1, M-W 1 (2OT): In an interdivisional matchup in Parishville, the host Lady Panthers opened the scoring midway through the first half when Michaela Cole connected from Caitlin McGregor. The lead held until Olivia Parmeter tied the game from Blake Orosz and Katie Marcellus with just 17 seconds left in regulation.
Marlee Wilson made 13 saves for P-H (7-1-1, 5-1-1) while Shelby Kendall stood tall stopping 23 shots for the Yellowjackets.
