CLAYTON — Frontenac Crystal Springs has sold its delivery routes in Jefferson and Lewis counties to a distributor based in Watertown, Conn.

Frontenac on Friday reached a deal with Crystal Rock Water, which has a regional office in Syracuse, to handle those routes, starting Monday, according to company President Michael A. Colello.

“We want to focus on up north, as well as our bottling operation,” Mr. Colello said Saturday evening.

The move, which has been under consideration for some time, will also serve to recapitalize the business, he said.

Mr. Colello said he was uncertain yet of exactly how the change will affect Frontenac’s 10 workers but that company officials will be “trying to make sure our employees are taken care of” and working out other logistics in the coming weeks.

The Clayton company will continue to deliver water to customers in St. Lawrence and Franklin counties, he said.

Crystal Rock, founded in 1914, also distributes coffee and office supplies.

Mr. Colello spoke with the Times from Bangor, Maine, after completing the final stage in the Fireball Run Adventurally, a 2,500-mile scavenger hunt put on by Universal Studios that made stops Tuesday in Sackets Harbor and Watertown.

He and a friend, David Stapleton of Butler, Pa., competed in the eight-day event in a Frontenac delivery truck.

Mr. Colello said he had not yet learned how his team finished. However, he said, they did well, considering most of their competition utilized more aerodynamic vehicles, and that the event helped raise awareness for missing children.

“It was very, very successful,” Mr. Colello said.
