North Lawrence man wins $50K in Bad Beat Jackpot at casino

AKWESASNE - After nine months of growth, the elusive Bad Beat Jackpot was won on Sunday night. Scott Villnave from North Lawrence won the initial hand with an “AAA-JJ” pairing, earning him $49,489.80, 50 percent of $98,979.60 overall pot.

Mr. Villnave said, “When I hit it, everyone at the table starting jumping, cheering and high fiving each other. It was exciting.”

When asked what the money is going to be used for, Mr. Villnave says “I’d like to do some home renovations. I really would like to put down hard wood floors.”

Visiting sometimes up to two to three times per month, Mr. Villnave states that he stayed in tune with promotions by tracking updates on the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Poker Room Facebook page and checking in on the website as well. “Bryan (Garrow) and Mike (Ploof) run a good poker room down there,” he said.

In addition to Mr. Villnave’s win, another local, Donald Chapin, walked away with 25 percent of the overall jackpot, making him $24,744.90 richer. The remaining 25 percent% of the jackpot was divided among the table.

Poker Room Manager Bryan Garrow said, “Our tournaments are going well, but that Bad Beat Jackpot was an amazing opportunity for our guests. I don’t know if it will ever reach that high again, but it will be fun to try.”

The excitement will continue at the Poker Room with daily tournaments such as a DEEP STACK Tournament on Oct. 19. Other great incentives for the Poker Room include the Battle of the Bubble Tournament as well. This tournament rewards repeat players by hours tracked at the Poker Room. With a minimum accumulation of 50 hours before Nov. 11, each player will qualify for $5,000 Poker Cash Free Roll tournament on Nov. 13.
