SYRACUSE Billy Dunn of Watertown grabbed a little of the spotlight from Billy Decker if only for a moment Friday night with a victory in the final big-block modified Triple 20s race during Super DIRT Week at the New York State Fairgrounds.
Decker, of Unadilla, had another spectacular Friday as he won the qualifying race for the 358 modifieds earlier in the day and then went on to win one of the Twin 20s. He finished the day by winning a Triple 20s race.
Dunn also finished third in a 358-modified race won by Decker. Danny Johnson won the other Twin 20s feature, while Bobby Varin captured a Triple 20s feature.
Tim McCreadie finished second behind Johnson in the 358-modified qualifying race. The Watertown native finished third in one of the big-block modified races. Tim Fuller of Watertown finished fifth in a big-block qualifying races.
The Gander Mountain 150 358-modified championship highlights the action today. The race is scheduled for 2 p.m. start.
nJosh VanBrocklin of Watertown had the fourth fastest qualifying time Friday in the sportsman-modified time trials at the New York State Fairgrounds. Mathieu Desjardins of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec was the top qualifier for todays 30-lap championship race.
■ Tim Fuller continues to show improvement as he competes in the World of Outlaws late model series. On Thursday night, Fuller finished eighth in the series race at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge. McCreadie started ninth and finished 12th in the race won by Rick Eckert of York, Pa. In the small-block modifieds, veteran driver Brett Hearn won Thursday nights race at Rolling Wheels Raceway. Danny Johnson finished second with Lee Gill, Danny OBrien and McCreadie rounding out the top five.
