OGDENSBURG St. Lawrence County sold 139 parcels for more than $1 million Saturday at its auction of tax-acquired property at Lockwood Arena in Ogdensburg.
The money generated is nearly twice as much as last years sale of 110 properties which the county sold for $550,000. This years total sales were $1,043,800.
There were a few bigger properties and some houses, Treasurer Kevin M. Felt said. We need the money but its sad people are letting decent houses go because they cant afford their taxes.
The county started with 330 properties in the sale but ended up with 139 as owners were able to redeem the parcels if they paid back taxes, interest and penalties by the close of business Friday.
The auction was conducted by Gregory J. Walsh.
