Whalen’s two goals launch Jefferson CC

SARANAC LAKE — Graham Whalen scored his second goal of the game from a Kemar Andre Farquharson cross in the 44th minute to lead the Jefferson Community College men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over North Country Community College in a Region 3 game on Monday.

Samuel Lyndaker stopped 14 shots for the Cannoneeers (3-8-2). Jason Aldrich provided the assist on the first Whalen goal.

Winterson Joseph scored for the Saints (4-6-0).

WOMEN’S SOCCER

JEFFERSON CC 2, NORTH COUNTRY CC 1

Kayla Brown was credited with the deciding goal in the 47th minute as the Cannoneers edged the host Saints.

Brown’s crossing pass deflected off an opposing player and into the goal for the game winner for JCC. Morgan Kiernan scored in the first half for the Cannoneers (9-4).

Goalkeeper Amber Dibble made five saves for the win.

GOLF

SUNY CANTON 7TH

Mike Reilly, of Colton, shot a 7-over-par 79 to lead SUNY Canton’s golfers in the first round of the USCAA championship at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.

The Kangaroos totaled 335 points to finish seventh among 19 teams. David Parker shot an 82 to tie for 28th place for Canton. The second round is today.
