Ogdensburg Public Librarys new childrens librarian may be announced as soon as next week.
Library Executive Director Wayne L. Miller said Tuesday that the selection of one of two finalists for the position could be made following an executive session at the Oct. 18 meeting of the library Board of Trustees.
He had hoped to make his choice known earlier and wouldnt elaborate on why he needed more time and to consult the board.
Thats taking longer than I thought it would, Mr. Miller said.
The finalists are Cheryl Seymour of Ogdensburg and Parminder Singh of Queens. In addition to interviewing with Mr. Miller, they tried out on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28 with public story-telling sessions at the library in front of pre-school-age children.
Whoever is chosen will succeed Bonnie Wright, who retired in January 2011. Her position was left vacant until this year because of budget cutbacks at the library.
Mr. Miller said the selection process has included his discussing the two candidates with Mrs. Wright, library staff, the trustees and the Friends of the Library support group.
Its still a work in progress, board chairwoman Cathy Piche said of the selection process.
