COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. A late rally fell just a bit short as the Clarkson University mens hockey team opened the season with a 5-4 loss to Colorado College in a nonconference game at the World Arena Friday night.
Clarkson fell behind 5-1 but scored three goals in the final 16 minutes, 8 seconds of the game to make things anxious for the Tigers, who improved to 10-0-3 lifetime against Clarkson.
Junior captain Ben Sexton cut the lead to one goal after stealing the puck and scoring with 2:34 left in the game.
Jarrett Burton took advantage of a turnover and scored an unassisted goal at 1:11 to tie the game 1-1 for Clarkson.
Shorthanded goals from Jeff Collett at 3:28 and Rylan Schwartz at 5:49 in the second period gave Colorado a 3-1 lead.
Charlie Taft and Andrew Skalbeck then scored for Colorados 5-1 lead. Freshman Pat Megannety started Clarksons comeback with a goal at 3:52 of the third period.
Another freshman, Christian Powers, scored at 10:50 to make it 5-3.
