LISBON - Solid, really solid.
Lisbon Central Boys Soccer Coach Bill Reed uses those words to say volumes when speaking about the defensive backfield of his Golden Knights. A 6-1-1 Golden Knight squad which posted a 2-0 NAC West victory on Saturday over a 3-4-1 Morristown squad which is much more formidable than their record would indicate according to Reed.
Morristown is very quick and very athletic. They are a good team and there wont be many teams looking forward to playing them early in the sectionals, said Reed after his defense denied several well conceived buildups by the Rockets.
Matt Snyder at sweeper, Ryan Buckley and Tristan Vine at the fullback and James Darcy at stopper working with Jimmy Robinson in the goal are just a solid, very solid unit. They communicate and play together very well. said Reed.
They dont do anything that flashy but they play their positions well. They bend some but they seldom break. And we have to keep it going because we have another tough game at Edwards-Knox on Tuesday.
The Morristown defense and Luke King (5 saves) also played extremely solid highlighted by Kings brilliant diving save to stop a penalty shot early in the game.
The Knights answered in the 15th minute when Cody James buried a hard shot after controlling Chris Measheaws header of an Adam Kelley cross. Adam Felt netted the second goal of the contest when his long volley out of the midfield took a huge bounce and rolled into the net. Robinson finished with three saves in the shutout and used his size and his leaping ability to steer a shot by Bobby Simmons over the crossbar early in the second half.
