POTSDAM — The village’s newly hired code enforcement officer has resigned after less than two months on the job.

Kevin Brostek, who began working full time Sept. 10, announced his resignation Thursday. His last day on the job will be Oct. 24.

Mr. Brostek, a 23-year-old Clarkson University graduate, will move to Corning to take a job with Gilbane Construction.

“The job wasn’t everything I expected it to be,” he said of the Potsdam position.

According to Village Administrator David H. Fenton, a new code enforcement officer likely will be found by the time Mr. Brostek leaves.

“We’ve done interviews with other candidates, so we should have someone on the agenda for Monday’s meeting,” he said. “I don’t think we’re going to see any lapse at all.”

Village trustees will vote to appoint Norwood resident Larry J. Colbert to the position at a board meeting Monday night. Mr. Colbert was a candidate in the search for a new code enforcement officer in August, but was passed over in favor of Mr. Brostek.

This search began in June, after the village abruptly fired the former code enforcement officer, Timothy J. O’Brien, who had been hired in 2011.

At the time, Mayor Steven W. Yurgartis said Mr. O’Brien was “not a good fit.”

Mr. O’Brien filed a lawsuit against the village earlier this month, saying he was fired for trying to enforce building and safety regulations at Clarkson University, where three board members work.

“The current mayor and board are interested in only fire and life safety issues, and are not terribly interested in property safety issues,” Mr. O’Brien said.
