MADRID - Showing the signs of making the final step in their evolution as a team the Madrid-Waddington Yellowjackets secured a 3-1 victory over St. Lawrence Central to stay in the thick of the multiple-team NAC East lead.
A division lead race which saw Chateaugay (8-3-1 17 points) take over the lead by virtue of a win over St. Regis Falls combined withs Colton-Pierreponts (8-4-0 16 points) 1-0 win over Parishville-Hopkinton (7-2-1 15 points).
M-W 3 - St. Lawrence 1: We have been doing a great job at ball control and ball movement but we have struggled to make that final transition in terms of putting the ball in the net, M-W Coach Jeff Stein.
So scoring three goals against a quality St. Lawrence Central team which has good athleticism and good speed was definitely a step forward especially since we have two games with Parishville-Hopkinton next week. Colin OBryan does a great job at stopper and our center halfback Kyle Bent has excellent skills and vision so we are very solid in the middle. It is just a matter of the guys up front scoring some goals.
Bent sparked the Jackets to a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game converting off a Jacob Barney throw-in in the 17th minute and setting up Austin Scott for a chip shot into the net in the 20th minute.
Luke Arquiett scored unassisted for St. Lawrence 4:49 before the half and M-Ws Jeff Mott completed the scoring in the third minute of the second half off Barneys second assist of the game.
Zach Brock stopped nine shots in goal for the Jackets and Tyler Savage collected 12 saves for SLC.
C-P 1, P-H 0: Andrew Holden scored from Noah Whalen in the 9th minute as Craig Miller made two saves for the Colts.
Parker Measheaw had four saves for the visiting Panthers.
B-M 3, N-N 0: Loren Traynor scored twice, Justin LaVarnway connected once and Adam Martin and Tristen Dumas each logged an assist for the visiting Panthers (8-4-1, 7-3-1 NAC East).
Chateaugay 3, St. Regis 0: Tyler Martin, Devin Willis, and Tyler Jones all scored for Chateaugay (8-3-3, 8-3-1 NAC East)
