Be sad: Two out of three is bad, according to Karen Bisso's Conservative Party campaign.
Mrs. Bisso, a registered Republican, is on the ballot against Democrat Tim Carpenter and Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru. Mrs. Bisso challenged her two foes to a town-hall style debate on Oct. 30 at the Franklin County Legislative Building. Mr. Carpenter accepted; Mrs. Duprey did not.
The Bisso campaign has hammered Mrs. Duprey — the favorite in the race — for allegedly not visiting the Assembly district enough. It includes the four easternmost St. Lawrence County towns, plus Franklin and Clinton counties.
Mrs. Duprey has indeed visited St. Lawrence County, she has said, despite claims to the contrary by the Bisso camp.
But Mrs. Duprey's absence at the debate, which will take place at 7 p.m. and will feature WAMC's Pat Bradley as moderator, was unacceptable to the Bisso campaign.
"Therefore we will make sure that there is a seat available for Mrs. Duprey at the debate," the statement from the Bisso campaign said.
