With a week to go, Doheny makes final pitch

Republican Matt Doheny is out with a campaign ad that could help define his candidacy in a way that north country voters can identify with.
The question is whether it's too little, too late. Rep. Bill Owens and other Democrats have been beating a single, solitary drum for the past three months: Mr. Doheny is a creature of Wall Street who won't look out for the north country.
Take this as a counterpoint — a little over a week before the Nov. 6 election.
The ad features a direct-to-camera appeal from Mr. Doheny, filmed in Thompson Park. You can see a picture of the production here.
It's actually a great ad. It gives his business record a north country spin. He ditches the dress shirt for a flannel. He talks about how he'll work hard. And he goes after Mr. Owens without seeming mean-spirited about it, which has been a problem for some of his campaign ads. Attack ads shouldn't look like attack ads. This one doesn't.
“Frankly, with almost 10 percent unemployment and over five thousand lost jobs, Bill Owens isn't getting the job done," Mr. Doheny says. "When it comes to creating jobs, I’ll fight for you and your family."
