LISBON – An expansion of the towns beach and campground is close to finished.
Michael J. ONeil, Lisbon Beach and Campground director, said Friday they are roughly 85 percent finished.
Adding 11 sites and upgrading 32, the $173,000 project is slated to be finished within the next week.
On Friday, workers from Fiacco and Riley Construction, Norwood, were busy digging trenches for the power lines that will provide electricity to the new sites.
We have to test the sewer and the water, said Mr. ONeil, describing whats left on the project.
Additionally, wind gusts over the last several days removed much of the seeding and mulch work done on the campground.
Well have to do more seeding in the spring, said Mr. ONeil.
The project has also been plagued with holdups due to large stones – or small boulders – that fill the ground in the area.
Many of these stones have been moved to line the campgrounds road.
Wednesday saw the campground close down for the season. It will open again May 1. Mr. ONeil said the campground is already getting booked for next year.
We have a lot of seasonals and vacationers that have already made plans, he said.
Judging by the number of people who have made reservations, Mr. ONeil said, even with the new sites, We still wont have enough [campsites].
I would like to keep expanding, he said.
