Washington Street medical building sold

A local orthopedic and prosthetics specialist has purchased a Washington Street office building for $1 million.

Donald W. Holmes, clinical director for Northern Orthopedic Laboratories, has bought the nearly 10,000-square-foot office building at 428 Washington St. from Watertown Medical Associates, according to a property transaction with the Jefferson County clerk’s office. He made the purchase under the corporation name Hidden LLC, the parent company for his business.

On Tuesday night, Mr. Holmes said he became interested in the property after hearing that it had become available.

He does not plan to make any changes to the building or with the tenants. “It’s a beautiful building,” he said.

The tenants are: Dr. Elliott S. Cohen, an obstetrician and gynecologist; Dr. Robert O. Kimball, a surgeon; and Watertown Breast Imaging.

Mr. Holmes, who lives in Alexandria Bay and owns a trailer park there, has offices in Watertown, Syracuse, Potsdam and Ogdensburg.

Constructed in 1988, the building was owned by a partnership that includes two general surgeons, Dr. Jan K. Turcotte, who retired in March, and Dr. David G. Gregor, City Assessor Brian S. Phelps said.

The property is assessed at $827,900 and has full a market value of $930,000.
