Voters in the town of Theresa approved 397-365 a proposition Tuesday that will increase the term of the supervisor, clerk and highway superintendent from two years to four years. The longer terms will take effect in fiscal year 2014 for the supervisor and highway superintendent; the four-year term for the clerk will take effect in 2016.
A similar proposition in the town of Antwerp that would have extended terms from two to four years for three officials was rejected by voters, 289-259. The supervisor, clerk and highway superintendent will maintain two-year terms. A second proposition to extend the term for the town tax collector from two to four years was approved, 397-365. The four-year term will take effect in 2014.
The proposition for the tax collector was voted on separately because officials forgot to include it when the first proposal was submitted.
