POTSDAM Sergis Italian Restaurant still is repairing damage from the windstorm that tore its roof off July 17, with no opening date in sight.
Theres no date yet, owner Sam Spagnola said.
He said hes hoping to return by the end of the year. They work hard every day, but theres no date yet. I hope very soon.
There is plenty of work left to do on the building at 10 Market St., which was among the hardest hit. It has remained condemned since the storm. A tarp still covers part of the buildings top.
Mr. Spagnola said insurance will cover at least part of the cost of repairs, although it is still unknown how much of the bill will have to be paid by Sergis.
As repairs continue, the family-run business has continued to operate out of 38 Market St., formerly Julians Restaurant. Business has been good there, according to Mr. Spagnola, but he said he is eager to move back to the restaurants original location.
While he is grateful for a place to run his business, the temporary site has a few problems most notably its smaller size.
Over here we cant make everybody happy, because its small, but its better than nothing, he said.
Customers should not expect any major changes when Sergis reopens at its original location.
The menu and prices will be the same, and the decor will be familiar.
Everybody loves that place, Mr. Spagnola said, and I love that place, too.
