HEUVELTON - The youth group from Fresh Start Fellowship Church is collecting new blankets to send to the New York City victims of Superstorm Sandy.

The project, called “Blanket the City,” is being led by Tim Boprey, Fresh Start youth director, and several other organizations.

New blankets can be dropped off through Dec. 12 at the Canton Price Chopper and Hair Express, Ogdensburg,

Collections for the project are also being organized by St. Mary’s Church, Canton, and the St. Lawrence University men’s hockey team, Canton. Various college groups will be canvassing the community.

Mr. Boprey said cold-weather attire is also welcome such as hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and heavy socks. Funds to cover transportation costs are also welcome.

Volunteers will be leaving for Long Island on Dec. 14 and plan to distribute the items through Convoy of Hope, a global outreach organization.

Fresh Start Fellowship Church meets at the Christian Family Tabernacle, Kendrew Corners.
