RENSSELAER FALLS In the village of Rensselaer Falls, only five absentee ballots remain to be counted, and Trustees Connie S. McAllister and Travis W. Dox effectively have won re-election.
Ms. McAllister won with 22 votes and Mr. Dox with 18 votes. None of the other write-ins managed to receive more than two votes.
But the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections isnt ready to declare official results for the Nov. 6 election just yet.
We are not beginning the process of counting absentees until Friday, Democratic Commissioner of Elections Jennie H. Bacon said.
With 107 absentee ballots left to be counted in Lisbon, it still isnt known who will fill the last year of former Town Council member C. Roger Shoens four-year term.
Mr. Shoen resigned in April.
Ms. Bacon said so far, former St. Lawrence County Sheriff Gary J. Jarvis has garnered 127 votes.
Marc A. McDonell, a retired state trooper who served around Ogdensburg and Canton, has received 81 votes.
Keystone Road farmer Patrick J. Green has landed 44 votes.
With a 46-vote lead, Mr. Jarvis has a substantial leg up on his competition. Mr. McDonell would have to outpoll him 77-30, with no votes going to Mr. Green, to gain election.
Without knowing who will fill in for Mr. Shoen, Lisbon Town Clerk Donna D. McBath said that todays Town Council meeting will be the usual suspects because we dont have the total amount of votes counted.
Ms. McBath said the Town Council may wait until January to swear in the next council member.
Ms. Bacon said she doesnt expect the certified election results to be ready until the end of November.
