LORRAINE After a car struck a cinder block late Wednesday night on County Route 97 in the town of Lorraine, a man removed the hazard from the highway, thus interfering with an investigation, according to the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department.
Earl N. Pierce, 42, of 6359 County Route 97, was jailed because of his alleged actions. He was being held without bail Friday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, after being arraigned before Lorraine Town Justice Eric C. Sheldon.
Deputies charged him Thursday night with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, and obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
The accident occurred at about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies said Meghan R. Beutel, 24, of 3369 French Settlement Road, was southbound when her 2002 sedan struck the cinder block that had been left in the road. She complained of neck pains following the accident, but was not transported to a hospital, according to an accident report.
