LISBON – The Town Council is waiting on the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department to submit a purchase offer for the 19 acre field that runs along the Pray Road behind the Presbyterian Church.

Michael Light, president of the Fire Department, said the department would be submitting a purchase offer for $40,750.

That price tag accounts for the price the Town originally paid for the property and the $750 fee to have it surveyed.

The town has reserved a length of the property that runs from the Pray Road to the train tracks that is 60 feet wide that could be used as a town road in the future. The town will remain the owner of that strip of property. Supervisor James W. Armstrong, speaking at Wednesday’s Town Council meeting, said the town will move forward with the sale pending any issues brought forward by the community.

Once the town receives a purchase offer from the Fire Department, town residents will have 30 days to petition against the sale, said Lisbon attorney Charles B. Nash.

The property is currently leased to the Fire Department by the town.

The field is maintained by the Fire Department and used for training operations and as a public gathering place.

The town initially paid roughly $40,000 for the property five years ago. It was purchased from Robyn Moore.

Ms. Moore still has the ability to purchase the land back before it is sold to the Fire Department.

If Ms. Moore did decide to purchase it, the Fire Department would still have the right to use the field until their contract expires in three years.
