The state Department of Environmental Conservation will help landowners protect grassland areas on their property with grants totaling $1 million, the department announced Monday.
The Landowner Incentive Program directs funding to projects to help at-risk species that depend on the ecosystems to survive. Eligible private landowners may apply for technical advice and financial incentives of $110 or $113 per acre per year to conduct the prescribed site management. Higher payout rates are for properties near population centers.
More information about the program, including an application, may be found at www.dec.ny.gov/animals/32722.html. The deadline to submit a pre-application is Jan. 15.
