PORT LEYDEN Three weeks after a Port Leyden man was convicted of burglary in Lewis County Court, he stole and wrecked a vehicle here, state police allege.
Nicholas M. Panarese, 27, East Main Street, was arrested Tuesday on charges of third-degree grand larceny and leaving the scene of an accident. He was released without bail following arraignment in Lowville Village Court.
Police allege that early on Oct. 6, Mr. Panarese drove off in a 2005 GMC Sierra owned by Brandon Reese, 7301 Moose River Road, and went a short distance on East Main Street before slamming into a parked truck.
He is due for sentencing Dec. 7 in County Court for the burglary conviction, involving a jewelry theft from a house in Lowville. He pleaded guilty Sept. 14.
