The OFA Girls Volleyball team didn’t win any championships in the fall season.

But Coach Sue McLean credited the Lady Blue Devils for “making history”, on Wednesday night, at the team’s awards banquet at the Ogdensburg Elks Lodge.

“This was a great group and for the first time in my career I was able to work with a stress-free team. There was never any drama between the players, they just came to gym and loved to play volleyball,” said McLean.,“They made memories that will last forever and in that regard every team I ever coach will be compared to them.”

The Lady Devils did challenge for the NAC West Division title right down to the final match of the regular season where they lost a showdown to Potsdam and they were led by senior Felicia Barr who was honored as the Outstanding Player in Section 10 as the recipient of the Patty Baldwin Memorial Award.

Barr, who also landed Fourth Team All-State honors, and her twin sister, Brittany Barr, were both honored as First Team All-NAC selections, earned NAC All-Academic Awards and were members of a 12-player New York State Scholar-Athlete Team contingent which combined on a 94.751 average.

Olivia Bender and Taylor Fisher earned Second Team All-NAC awards and Katrina Couperus received the team’s NAC Sportsmanship Award.

Adrianna Compo, Katrina Couperus, Taylor Fisher, Emma Hart, Sky Hoover, Jessica Logan, Brenna McPherson and Shanice Wallace all earned NAC All-Academic Awards and were members of the NYS Scholar-Athlete Team contingent and Olivia Bender rounded out the NYS Scholar-Athlete Team contingent.

Coach McLean climaxed the presentations by announcing the recipients of the team awards. Felicia Barr received the Most Valuable Player Award, Brittany Barr received the Unsung Heroine Award, Katrina Couperus was cited as the Top Digger, Olivia Bender was honored as the Outstanding Playmaker, Taylor Fisher received the Most Improved Player Award and Sky Hoover received the Coach’s Award.
