Massena boys basketball team boasts solid veteran core

MASSENA - Head coach Tom Miller will look to rebuild an NAC Central Division contender around a solid veteran core as Massena Central varsity boys basketball team gets set to tip-off the 2012-13 season on Monday on the road against Route 420 rival St. Lawrence Central.

All five seniors on the Raider roster saw considerable playing time last winter with Zack Rusaw, David Phillips and Zach Fregoe expected to lead the way at forward while Robert Cameron and Joe LaBelle be counted on for their backcourt leadership.

Back as juniors and expected to bolster the frontcourt hopes are forwards Rhoades Tarbell and Xavier Viskovich.

The five first-year varsity players are making the move up from another successfully junior varsity campaign. They include guards Logan Deshane, Tyler Haas and Nick Lobdell along with forwards Rory Corcoran and Zevon Viskovich.

Along with challenging for Central Division honors, the Raiders will again gear up to face defending champion Franklin Academy in the Section 10 Class A title game.

Massena makes its Central debut on Friday, December 7, on the road against Canton.
