George J. Lewis, 31, of 261 Moulton St., was charged by state police Friday morning with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and three counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, which is a felony.

He is accused of forging and cashing checks belonging to an unidentified victim.

Mr. Lewis was arrested at an Interstate 81 rest area near Syracuse, but state police could not provide more information.

He was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, pending arraignment.
