CANTON — A Connecticut woman has been identified by police as the pedestrian victim in a Sunday hit-and-run accident on Park Street in the village. St. Lawrence University student Emily Baldwin, 18, New Canaan, Conn., was in a marked crosswalk near Brewer Bookstore about 12:30 a.m. with another woman, Liana Baker, 18, when Ms. Baldwin was struck by a northbound pickup truck driven by Dustin W. Rookey, Canton village police said.

Ms. Baldwin was treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, for minor injuries. Mr. Rookey, 25, of 38 Pollock Road, was stopped by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies a short time later on Route 11 near DeKalb Junction. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. His blood alcohol content was 0.12 percent, police said. A BAC level of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. He was released on his own recognizance to appear in Jan. 2 in Canton Town Court.
