Graduates from basic training: Army National Guard Spc. Sybil M. Jones, daughter of Diane Miesner, Shelbyville, Ky., has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla., as an honor graduate and received a letter of commendation. She is a 1995 graduate of Carthage Central School. Spc. Jones earned an associate’s degree in 2006 from Jefferson Community College, Watertown, and a bachelor’s degree in 2012 from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Ogdensburg, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Mr. Ahrens is a 2012 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy. Mr. Arquette is a 2012 graduate of Heuvelton Central School.

Returns from deployment: Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jared R. Howard, son of Tammy Rehm, Cape Vincent, and Donald Howard, Watertown; and Navy Airman Erik R. Lamoy, son of Leslie Valenze, Lake Placid, and Ernie Lamoy, Lake Placid, along with sailors and Marines assigned to the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group (CSG) recently arrived in Norfolk, Va, following a seven-and-a-half-month deployment supporting operations in the Mediterranean and the Arabian seas. Mr. Howard is a 2004 graduate of Thousand Islands Central School, Clayton, and joined the Navy in May 2008. Mr. Lamoy is a 2004 graduate of Lake Placid High School, and joined the Navy in August 2008.

Receives military promotion: Matthew D. Henry, son of Sherry Ruoff, and grandson of Roy and Pauline Sidmore, all of Belleville, also the grandson of Betty Henry, Henderson Harbor, has been promoted to the rank of technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Sgt. Henry is a quality assurance inspector assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. The technical sergeant has served in the military for 10 years.

Andrew J. Clyde, son of Wesley and Nancy Clyde, North Clinton Street, Carthage, has been promoted to the rank of technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Sgt. Clyde is a special handling craftsman assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. The technical sergeant has served in the military for 14 years. He graduated in 1998 from Carthage Central School.

Named editor: Daniel J. Gagliardi, SUNY Canton associate professor of mathematics, was recently named an editor of Graph Theory Notes of New York, a mathematics journal sponsored by the Metropolitan section of Mathematical Association of America.

Mr. Gagliardi conducts research in both Lie Algebra and Graph Theory, his most recent article in Graph Theory Notes of New York discusses the connections between both. He is also coauthor of a textbook, “Introduction to Linear Algebra with Applications,” with James Degranza, St. Lawrence University, Canton, professor.
