BRUSHTON – Reversing a loss to Madrid-Waddington in thr title game of the John Dinneen Memorial Tournament,Brushton-Moira handed Madrid-Waddington (2-1, 1-1 North) its first loss of the basketball season in a 59-47 North Division decision on Wednesday.
The Panthers (2-0 North, 2-1 overall) scored 24 points in the last quarter to erase a two-point deficit . BMC overcame the 22-point performance of M-W standout Colin OBryan with a balanced scoring output.
Justin Lavarnway led the BMC offense with an 18-point, seven-rebound effort as Adam Martin (5 steals) and Zach Burnett (5 rebounds, 4 steals) followed with 16 and 14 points.
We did a much better job of being smart with the basketball, pointed out BMC mentor Randy Todd III. We took care of the ball a lot better than we did in our last game (Friday). I was never worried about us scoring, it was the defensive end of the court that concerned me.
Terry Crump grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and blocked three shots for M-W which received secven points from Maurice Rease. M-W won the JV game 48-38.
