Ogdensburg police arrest four from alleged crack distribution ring

Four Buffalo men are in St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, accused of taking part in a crack cocaine distribution ring in the Ogdensburg area.

City police in a raid at 325 Belmont Courts Thursday evening arrested:

n Charles J.H. Caviness, also known as “Whiz” and “Chuck,” 24, of 438 Wyoming Ave.;

n Eldridge “L” Gossom, 25, of 453 Newburgh Ave.;

n Andre L. “Dre” Wilson, 40, of 81 Walden Ave., Apt. 1; and

n Tige K. “Jeeb” Smith Jr., 24, of 338 Longnecker St.

Each was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

They were arraigned in city court and sent to county jail, where they were booked into custody Friday evening. Mr. Caviness, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Smith were held on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bail bond. Mr. Gossom was held on $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond.

Police said the four were arrested as a result of an ongoing investigation into crack cocaine trafficking in the city. Police said the four were part of a distribution ring that predominantly is made up of players from Buffalo, but also included some local people.

They recovered a quantity of crack cocaine and cash at the apartment, but police refused to state how much of each were confiscated.

It was unclear whether the four were actually living in the Belmont Courts apartment where police executed a search warrant. Police refused to supply any information outside of what was in a news release issued Friday evening.

Ogdensburg police were assisted by members of the St. Lawrence County Drug Task force, which includes law enforcement from the county Sheriff’s Department, Gouverneur police and Potsdam police, U.S. Border Patrol and state police.

City police said more arrests are pending.
