One week ago, Gary J. Ladouceur was getting ready for the Dec. 2 opening for a fourth consecutive year of the Ogdensburg North Pole Satellite Office at Flat Iron Park.

But the exhibit was missing its centerpiece Santa’s Village.

That was because the 50 pieces of painted plywood that made up the display, including the Santa’s house, a toy workshop and elves’ house were gone, robbed last March and never recovered.

Today, thanks to donations of plywood, paint and cash, Mr. Ladouceur can look ahead to a rebuilding of the popular community exhibit.

Mr. Ladouceur is also touched by the generosity of the donations. A man gave $50, one of several cash gifts.

“Fifty dollars here, fifty dollars there,” he said. “It helps.”

Lowe’s of Ogdensburg donated 15 sheets of plywood and several gallons of paint, worth about $500 in all.

And the donations and telephone calls keep on coming.

“This is very positive,” Mr. Ladouceur said. “This is very uplifting.”

Mr. Ladouceur is also certain that he won’t be alone in rebuilding theChristmas exhibit. As was the case in 2009, it will likely be a community effort of friends and neighbors.
