SU’s Lemon, Pugh, Thomas earn All-Big East honors

SYRACUSE — Five Syracuse University football players were honored when the Big East Conference announced its year-end award winners on Thursday.

Wide receiver Alec Lemon, left tackle Justin Pugh and safety Shamarko Thomas were each named to the all-conference first team, while quarterback Ryan Nassib and defensive end Brandon Sharpe were selected for the second team.

Lemon was the only offensive player unanimously named to the first team. He leads the conference with 6.4 receptions and 96.6 receiving yards per game. He has a school-record 70 receptions for 1,063 yards and seven touchdowns this season, including five 100-yard receiving games.

Pugh earned his second straight first-team selection despite missing the first four games of the season due to offseason shoulder surgery.

Thomas has started all 12 games at safety and he is the Orange’s top tackler with 84 stops. He also leads the team with three forced fumbles and has two interceptions on the year.

Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater earned the conference’s Player of the Year award, while Cardinal coach Charlie Strong and Rutgers coach Kyle Flood shared Coach of the Year honors.
