CANTON - St. Lawrence Universitys mens indoor track and field team had a big day both on the track and in the field events Saturday, winning four individual races and two relays plus four field events as the Saints hosted the 2012 Saint Holiday Relays at the Newell Field House.
Scott Smolensky won the mile (4:29), Leif Frymire the 400 (55.02), Brendan Courneene the 5000 (15:41.39) and Ogdensburgs Jake Fredericks (8.77) the 60 hurdles for the individual race wins while the team of Jamal Samaroo, Omaru Kabia, Fredericks and Ogdensburgs Andy Fisher won the 4x200 relay and Smolensky, Frymire, Adam Bankert Fredericks took second in 400and another former OFA standout in Nick Crawford, took second in the hurdles and ran on the Saints second place 4x400 relay. Silver earned a second place in the 200 meters.
In field event competition, Mike Scott tied the meet record with a win at 1.93 meters in the high jump while Connor Rockford won the pole vault, A.J. Blaisdell won the weight throw and Payton won the triple jump.
First Year Ella Martin set Saint Holiday Relay meet records in both the mile (5:12.15) and 3000 meters (10:21.45) and classmate Marissa Turner set a meet and SLU record in the high jump (1.68 meters) to highlight the afternoon for the St. Lawrence University womens indoor track and field.Other Saint winners on Saturday included Kristen Linder (SP), Emily Rebehn (TJ) and the 4x400 relay team of Jess Marini, Cassia Hameline, Rebehn and Teresa Grigg.
