Dec. 10, 2002: The cost to rehabilitate three buildings that make up most of the 150-year-old “Iron Block” on Watertown’s Public Square could exceed $547,000, according to a Syracuse engineering firm. Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt, East Syracuse, also found that while each of the buildings at 29-39 Public Square has “isolated problems,” most of their structures are in “good condition.”

Dec. 10. 1987: Dried squid, ginseng tea, pickled coconut and seaweed are not what you’d expect to find in your average corner grocery store. But then again, there’s nothing average about one of Watertown’s newest shops, Chin’s Grocery, at 383 Flower Ave. E., just off Franklin Street.

Dec. 10, 1962: Watertown’s multimillion-dollar urban renewal program, designed to modernize approximately 18½ acres in the center of the city’s business section — Court and Arsenal streets — would result in an estimated three-year redevelopment of this area for retail commercial purposes.

Dec. 10, 1937: Hunters in New York state reported the largest “take” of deer during the 1937 season of any year since 1924, and the last week of the open season was the most productive.

Dec. 10, 1912: It was learned today that when the complete transfer of the Beebee’s Island machine shop of the New York Air Brake Co. to the cast plant is completed, many new pieces of machinery will be added to the machine shop equipment, and if business remains at its present stand, more men will be employed in the machine department.

Dec. 10, 1887: A Camden citizen found a human finger in a plug of tobacco and will stop chewing.

Dec. 10, 1862: At the annual communication of Sackets Harbor Lodge No. 135 of Free and Accepted Masons, held at Masonic Hall, Sackets Harbor, Dec. 1st, 1862, officers were duly elected. The regular communications of Sackets Harbor Lodge, No. 135, during the year 1863, will be held at Masonic Hall, Sackets Harbor, on Monday evenings of the week in which the moon fulls.
